I thought I knew alot about Windows but just ran into
something new. On a Win XP Home Pc hooked up to DSL
through SBC, you cannot click the start button until
launching SBC software that connects you to the internet.
The software came from Yahoo/SBC.

Any suggestions on how to get to the start menu without
DSL?

Thanks,

Tony

Hi,

Are you able to open the Start Menu by pushing the Windows key on your
keyboard if it has it?
Or pressing the keyboard short-cut Ctrl-Esc to bring up the Start Menu?

I've tried that. The start button appears to be disabled
until the SBC DSL application is launched.

This is on a HP Pc that is 6 months old.

Thanks,

Tony

You don't really need the SBC DSL software, IE can make the
connection.

The SBC application handles the PPOE login for DSL. How
else can you make the PPOE signon running directly
through the DSL modem that us plugged into the Pc's USB
port? There is no router being used.

Thanks,

Tony

You may have Parental Controls Configured wrong ?
The Yahoo DSL software can be configured not to run at Windows startup, it
can also be configured to log you in automaticly. If you need to, you can
get a yahoo tech on the phone and have them walk you thru everything. They
are Very good in the support dept. You may wait awhile but they bend over
backwards to help.
