I can't access the shares on one computer only. That computer can access my
shares. I can access shares on third computer. That computer can access
shares on both of the others. So my computer's basic networking is
functional, so is the problem machine's.
I keep getting this error when I try to access it, "You might not have
permission to access this item. Contact the adminstrator....etc. Logon
failure: user account restriction." What possible restriction is it talking
about, especially as until recently, everything did work correctly. What
could have changed?
If I type in the full resource name under the Add Network Place Wizard,
after a minute or so I get "The folder you entered does not appear to be
valid. Please choose another." This is the same folder that's accessible to
the machine I can get to, under exactly the same share name, so it is a valid
folder. And of course, wouldn't you know it, the printer is attached to the
machine I can't access.
System Restore hasn't helped, leaving and rejoining the workgroup made
things worse. Before trying that last procedure, things actually worked
correctly from my wife's ordinary user account, but not from my personal
Adminstrator member account, nor from the built Adminstrator account. A
newly created Adminstrator member account also had the problem, a newly
created user account also did not.
Since rejoining the workgroup, the user accounts can still see the shares on
the problem machine, but can no longer access them. The Adminstrator
accounts can't even do that. They can see the machine, but not the shares.
The only info I find in Knowledge Base or the web says to type in the full
resource name. I've tried that until I'm blue in the face. I've found no
discussion anywhere of what to do when that doesn't work.
Someone please help, this has been driving me insane for days!
