Hello, I uninstalled some spyware with hijack this, spybotS&D, adaware and
now I can't get to my.ebay.com and some other https sites. I've lowered all
the security settings and deleted cookies, temp internet files, double
checked the ssl levels, cleared the forms, reregistered urlmon, mshtml,
actxprxy, oleaut32, shell32, shdocvw dll's, sfc /scannow all with no luck.
I'm basically looking for other leads, do these pages require some sort of
scripting support that needs to be re-installed?

TIA

Rich

Hi Rich

Have you tried 'undoing' what you uninstalled with those programs?

Denny, thanks for your quick response.

No I haven't tried undoing the adaware and spybot because before I ran those
I couldn't get to the internet at all. Before running running the
antispyware stuff I would do ipconfig /all and get the name of the ethernet
adapter with no other information, I assumed the spyware made some changes
to the IP stack so I ran the anti-spyware software, reinstalled IP via
nettcpip.inf and also reinstalled winsock. after that I could at least do
some web browsing. It's not just my.ebay.com, if I go to ebay.com I can't
get to the register page either.

Could it be a problem processing the certificates on secure pages? At one
point during the process I got a notification that I am accessing a secure
page and whether or not I want to continue and there is a check box option
to not show this message again, but I never get to the web page. This tells
me that the browser sees the page (I can ping the IP number as well) but for
some reason won't load it.

In IE click "Help ->about internet explorer", check to see if the Cipher
Strength is 128bit. I think u should get something like 64bit. If that is
the case go to microsoft site to download "High Encryption Pack" (u can
search this on that site).

If you have installed SP2, that places restrictions on the use of Active
X in the general Internet Zone. If there is a site you trust - eg eBay
- it is best to leave these in place (for untrustworthy ones) and take
Trusted Sites, click Sites, enter http://*.eBay.com in the pane and Add
(unchecking the box about restricting to secure sites)

I installed sp2 and then I couldn't get to the internet at all. I could
ping properly, but no matter where I went I got the Page cannot be found
error. Needless to say I rolled back to SP1.
