Cant access Help & Restore or download in IE

Hi there,

I have recently been unable to download almost anything
at all using IE6. everytime I try to do so nothing seems
to happen for about 20 seconds and then the @Microsoft
Help and Support Centre' dialogue box appears telling me
an error has ocured and the the applciation needs to
close.

I also get exactly the same error box whenever I try to
access the Help and Restore application from the
XP 'Start Menu'

I would be very grateful if anyone could let me know what
they think may be wrong. I have installed of the
