We have a small office network. Ten computers: 4 XP
home, 3 XP Pro, 3 Win 98SE. We can only have 3 computers
at a time share a file on another computer. Any way to
increase this? The computers directly connect through a
LAN.

What type of topology is your network
star, daisy or token
do you have them all connected to a hub, server, router etc
are they all in a domain or a workgroup

How are they networked together?

Generally Windows file sharing on client OS's is limited to 10 concurrent
connections.

More details would be useful.

See answers, from me and others, to a slightly earlier thread.

Look to see how many MAPPED Drives are in use. Drive mapping can be
handy but it's lethal in a peer-to-peer network because it creates
persistent connections.

You can only have 10 open connections at once so I suspect that you
have something like 7 mapped drive connections and that leaves 3
connections free to work on a shared file.

Drive Mapping isn't normally necessary. You should be able to browse
to the network shares you need.

Hope this helps
