Dave

Hi

I just set up a home network with a host running XP Home
(with an internet connection) and a client in another
room running XP Pro.

I can ping backwards and forwards but I can't see shares
from either computer.

On the host, the other computer is visible but not
accessible.

The error on the server is "The Specified Network Name is
No Longer Available"

If I use command and net view \\client i get error 53 but
i don't know what this means...

All guest accounts are activated, and simple file sharing
is set up on both sides.

Its driving me nuts!

System error 53 - The network path was not found.

Symptom: when using net view \\ip or \\computername, you get system error
53.

Resolutions: 1) if it is domain environment, check your WINS; 2) if it is
peer-to-peer workgroup, enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP; 3) make sure the machine
is running; 4) make sure file and Printer Share enabled on remote computer;
5) make sure client for ms networks is enabled on local computer; 6) make
sure you type the correct name.

Okay, i've looked at all that,

I've enabled NetBIOS, but now i can't see the client at
all from the host let alone access it. I've definately
got them on the same workgroup.

how do i check the file and printer sharing, and have you
got any other suggestions?

i'm also getting system error 64 from net view too
