Canon MultiPass Printing Woes

I installed a Canon Multipass C555 on Windows XP Pro.
There is no communication between the computer and the
MultiPass. I get an error message viz: "Spooler SubSystem
App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience."
Then when I try to go into the MultiPass icon and
select "Properties" I get the following: "Printer
properties cannot be displayed. The printer spooler
service is not running."
When I try to uninstall everything there are two programs
which I cannot uninstall - Canon MultiPASS ODBC
Interface, and Canon ScanGear 4.0 for MultiPASS.
What should I do?
