Cannot VPN and cannot save TCP/IP settings

After upgrading the harddisk of my laptop and performing a restore operation
with Windows Backup, I can't VPN into any network. It will complain Error
720 failure to establish PPP connection while registering onto network.

I believe this is very much due to the fact that my network adapters
(Ethernet or wireless) can't alter their TCP/IP properties - change them and
they revert to previous default settings on next check. The failure to save
must have some relation to the failure to establish new PPP network.

Anybody seen this before?

Error 720: No PPP control protocols configured.

Resolution:
1) make sure both RAS server and client have the correct protocol setup.
2) make sure the NetBIOS interface has being installed and the NetBIOS
binding has being enabled. The NetBIOS interface is required for
establishing logical names and sessions on the network for Windows NT/9x/ME.

The setting is as prior to the harddisk swap. I can't see any difference,
other than not being able to save any changes to the TCP/IP settings and
uninstalling it.
