cannot view equations

when i open word documents in my email i cannot view equations within the
document. there is an empty box with a close icon in the corner

Equation Editor installed? If not, it must be installed, usually from the
Microsoft Office installation cdrom. If an alternative source for it exists,
it would be http://www.microsoft.com/.
