Start | Default Programs
Make sure Internet Explorer has all its defaults.

That's not the correct method for resetting all of a program's defaults.
Do the following:
Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from
the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item:
"Set your default programs."
After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on "Internet
Explorer". If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults"
then fix it by clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.

Thanks for prompt help, iv'e checked that, all a, o.k. but ive still got this
urgent e.mail and i still cant use the links on it

it klooks like same problem as mine ... theres no way to reset it, for
experience whit outlook express and internet explorer the only way to fix
simialr registry failures is to use IEAK toolkit

I'm wondering if is it there a similar tool for windows live mail
or if somebody got any idea about where the association of HTTP , MAILTO
...etc are stored in the registry (that eventually help to fix it manually)

When you did the Default Programs procedure, did it respond with
"This program has all its defaults"?

If the email is urgent, you can always copy and paste the link into
IE's address bar.

Perhaps your IE is hosed. If so, try its reset procedure:
Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, Reset.

If Default Programs responds with "This program has all its defaults",
there is one other place to check. In Default Programs, click on
"Associate a file type or protocol..." When that screen finishes loading,
scroll down to the bottom where all the protocol assignments are shown.
Make sure the "HTTP URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol" is assigned to
Internet Explorer.
