Cannot specify action

I hope my subject line is not confusing.

I purchased a Lexar Secure v.2.0 USB jumpdrive to use with my XP Home, SP2
system. I have formatted and configured it according to the instructions.
Each time I plug it into the USB port, Windows opens a dialog box that asks
me what actions I want to be taken: open the program, read the files of do
nothing. Of course, I would like Windows to open the drive so I can use it.
The problem is that the checkbox in the bottom of the dialog box and the
sentence instructing Windows to "Take the same action every time." are both
grayed-out so I cannot give that instruction to Windows.

Can someone tell me what I must do to activate that checkbox and its
associated command so the program simply opens when the jumpdrive is plugged
in??

When the USB jumpdrive is plugged in open Windows Explorer:
Start>All Programs>Accessories>Windows Explorer
Scroll down to the drive letter (may be "E" or "F" drive) and rightclick
it and click Open. Or.........
Doubleclick the My Computer icon on desktop and see if the jumdrive
is listed. If it is, rightclick it and click either Expand or Open.
If it is not listed, make sure you have a battery in the jumpdrive and it
is turned ON.

Getting the jump drive to open is not the ultimate problem. The Windows
dialog box that opens when the drive is plugged in has the "Open this
program immediately" option already highlighted. By simply clicking "OK" I
can initiate the activation of the drive.

What I WANT to be able to have happen is for Windows to simply start the
drive when I plug it in rather than first presenting me with three options
from which I must select the same one each time. The checkbox at the bottom
of the dialog box that would instruct Windows to execute the chosen action
each time the drive is plugged in is grayed out; I cannot instruct Windows
to do the same action each time it detects the drive. What I need to know is
how to activate that command...what to do so that the checkbox becomes
clickable so I can tell Windows I want it to open the drive automatically.
