Hi

My pc is acting strange.Lost my screensaver, all my folders are in different locations. Can't even open recycle bin.Tried to start my Norton Antivirus but shows 'Refreshing'.If I want to look to the settings,I can't find my doc All users as i is hidden. If I try to change these settings:meaning show hidden files it won't accept it.It jumps back to hide files. So I can't run my Norton Antivirus.Think I'll have a virus or something.Any help would be welcome! Thanks!

Sounds like your machine is infected with nefarious viruses or other, or
maybe the hard disk is messed up.

I'd suggest doing a system restore (from Systems menu), but that
probably not possible. Try a "repair" install of XP and go from there.
You can find a Knowledge base articles on Micosoft's web site for how to
do this. Also probably described in the paperwork that came with your
computer from the manufacturer.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Hi Boga,

I ran into the same problem about 2 weeks ago. It ended up that Norton got corrupted.

I had to completely uninstall Norton and I do mean *completely*. The first couple of times that I tried removing Norton, it left
some registry entries, and when I reinstalled, I ended up where I left off. I had to use Registrar Lite & jv16 to get rid of all
the registry entries. One of the problems with completely deleting Norton is that you lose your LiveUpdate registration
information. If you do not enter the information like you did when you first set it up, you will lose whatever time you had on
your registration.

In my case, I made a big mistake when trying to deal with the Norton problem . . . I left my wireless connection on and I ended
up picking a number of virii. I used a couple of online virus detection as well as AVG and lastly Norton to get rid of the last
of the virii. So make sure that you disconnect from the Internet when doing the uninstall/reinstall of Norton. The process I
used was to make sure that ZoneAlarm was up and running, then loaded AVG (do an update right away), then do CA & Panda online
virus scans. Then I took the computer off line and used AVG to scan. Once it finished removing the accumulated virii, I loaded
Norton. I immediately did a LiveUpdate and did a full scan with Norton.

It took more than 30 man hours but my system is back up and running like a champ. I have to say that Symantec was useless. They
kept telling me to uninstall Norton but never how to do a complete uninstall. I had to figure that out on my own.

As a not so funny aside, this problem cropped up on a Friday, and my normal backup day is Saturday. The end result was that I
lost all data for work done that week except for the stuff that I put on my thumb drive. For the past couple of weeks, I have
been using FinalCopy to make an automatic backup of changed files to my thumb drive.

Ciao . . .
C.Joseph
