I am having the some problems in OL 2003. It hangs whenever i go to the reply forward or new message button. System locks up completely. Another wierd one... this also happens when I expand any menu item. Very strange. I've unchecked Word as email editor as an option. But I still have issues. Thanks in advance for any help!!!

You may have a corrupted outcmd.dat file. This is the file that stores your
toolbar customizations, and when it becomes corrupted, you may experience
those kinds of hangups. Try renaming or deleting your outcmd.dat file while
Outlook is closed. Renaming it might be the best idea if you have a lot of
customizations that you'd prefer not to lose; that way if renaming the file
doesn't solve your problem, you may be able to restore it later when you do
get Outlook working properly again.

Note: If you're using Windows 2000 or XP, you'll need to search in hidden
and system folders to find the outcmd.dat file.

Okay, I've renamed the file and it is still happening. Each time I open Outlook, whatever toolbar I click, whether it be new, reply, forward or whatever, it hangs for 2 to 3 minutes then pops up. And any other after that works fine. It's just that initial click to create a message that hangs each time I open Outlook. Any ideas? Again its a P4/XP home/OL2003. I am also running Zone Alarm 4 and AVG antivirus.

Have you tried temporarily disabling the addins you mentioned to see if
either of those are causing the slowdown?

Did you create a new profile when you installed Outlook 2003 or did you use
a profile you were already using in a previous version of Outlook? You
might want to try creating a new profile from scratch and see if that helps.
This can be done in Control Panel | Mail | Show Profiles.

Off-topic -- please quote the relevant parts of the thread when replying so
it's easier for us to follow later :-) I hide messages I've already read
so if I only see your reply and nothing before that, I often have a hard
time remembering what we were talking about. Thanks :-)
