Error: 250, Error Number: 0x800CCC7D.
I have tried suggestions from other messages. Haven't got Norton and have
unchecked boxes etc as suggested. PLEASE HELP!

This gives instructions for Outlook Express, which should also work under
Windows Mail.

Port 25 and SSL are seldom used together, so try this: Click on Tools,
then Accounts, then your email account, then Properties, then Advanced.
under Outgoing mail (SMTP):, click on the box to the left of This server
requires a secure connection (SSL), then Apply, then OK, then Close.
Do it again if you need to set it back.

What if any antivirus programs do you have? Norton is not the only
one that causes problems in Windows Mail.

Thanks for getting back to me, i have tried what you suggested. The box was
already ticked/checked. So i unchecked it and ticked again then apply and
close. No good still same error message. I am only using AVG.
Any other suggestions?
I can send emails if i go through bt yahoo and log on that way.
Thanks

Carol a shot in the dark, change the Outgoing Server port number for SMTP
from 25 to 587,
Tools>accounts>your account>properties>advanced tab>

see this link http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2704,1838667,00.asp

When you installed AVG, did you use the standard install? If so, you
might want to uninstall it and then do a custom install that tells it
to leave out the part that scans email.

Webmail uses a different port and there isn't affected by problems
that affect only port 25. Windows Mail won't use the webmail port,
though.

Are you using a connection to the server that goes through two
or more internet provider's equipment before it gets there? Such
connections are often blocked if they go to port 25, and occasionally
for some other ports, to cause trouble for spammers.

I am having the same problems - no matter what settings I use and what I
check or do not check (I have tried every combination over the past 2 weeks)
I cannot get my windows mail outgoing to work. I also uninstalled my Mcafe
tonight after reading other posts, but it still does not work. I have
verizon dsl.

anythoughts - much appreciated!

Is there a way to view the current days calendar as a side panel etc. while
in Windows Mail?

Thanks,

Van

No, the Windows Calendar is not integrated with Windows Mail.
Microsoft wants you to upgrade to Outlook to get that feature.

Do you get an error message when you try to send? If so, right-click
on it, copy, then paste it into a reply here.

I'm having the same problems with Windows Mail, I can send mail but can't
receive any. I've talked to my provider, they tell me that my set up is
fine, but they don't know what's wrong. I'm getting the same error message.
I've even tried other mail programs, like Thunderbird and Outlook. They don't
work either. The only way that I can view my mail is to go to my providers
web site and use web mail, which is a pain. I'm just about ready to junk
vista and go back to Windows XP. at least, I didn't have problems like this.

Please post YOUR error message, and let us decide if it is the same?

Please also tell us how you connect to the internet, dial-up BB etc.

Who is your ISP?

Please do not tag onto someone else's thread <aol> "me too", start your own
thread.

For a better newsgroup experience use the following link:

The same problem?
You use btinternet, and can't send?
Who is your email provider?
What error message are you receiving? Please post it here.

If you're getting the same '250 8BITMIME' part of the error message, you
may have the same problem I once had, except on your email server, not
your newsgroup server. To check for this, click on Tools, then Options,
then Send. Click on HTML Settings under the Mail Sending Format, and
if the MIME message format is set to None, click on the triangle and then
one of the other choices. Click on OK. Click on Plain Text Settings. If
there is a blue dot before MIME, and the encoding format is set to None,
change it the same way. Click on Apply, then OK. This will make it take
longer for messages to get to and from the servers, but is likely to work
for servers that don't handle the MIME and None combination properly.
