Cannot send Email

Yeah this looks like many other posts but I cannot see my particular problem.
As the subject states I cannot send Emails. The symptoms are:

1) I get no error messages
2) They never send (at launching, closing or manually send/receive)
3) I can disable my virus protection on the machine and there is no change
4) I have another machine on the same network with the same settings and it
will send fine (using outlook express)
5) Receive works fine
6) I could send at one time. I do not remember making any changes that
could affect this (other than normal Vista updates)

When I press send/receive it seems like it does not even check for outgoing
Emails. Is there a setting that turns that off?

Any help is appreciated.

I have the exact same situation: Worked fine, I'd made no changes, ISP
settings are the same, and OE works with those settings on two other
machines. It's clearly a Vista/Windows mail issue.

Disabling Norton or McAfee antivirus is not sufficient.
Those must be uninstalled completely. After that is done,
delete the corrupted mail account and create it again from
scratch.

Try uninstalling your Norton or McAfee antivirus, and then
deleting and re-creating that mail account.

I have the same problem. I have removed my AV software and this does not
help.I can only send mail when I exit and restart Mail. The send Recive
button does not work !

I have solved the problem. I have a Toshiba and there is a problem with the
SMS software. Thro' updating my ComUnified.com SMS software, the problem with
sending email using Mail is solved. May be you also have the same problem

What antivirus programs? Some of them need to be uninstalled, not just
disabled, to stop them from causing problems.

Click on Tools, then Accounts, then your email account, then Properties.
If there is no check mark in the box before Include this account when
receiving mail or synchronizing, click on this box and then Apply. Click on
OK and then Close.

Click on Tools, then Options. If there is no check mark in the box
before Send and receive messages at startup, click on this box and
then Apply. Click on Send. If there is no check mark in the box
before Send messages immediately, click on this box and then Apply.
Click on OK.

Restart Windows Mail.

If you get any error messages when trying to send or receive, show
us the complete error messages.
