Cannot send attachment from Word

I am using Word 2000 and cannot send it as an attachment from Word. I am
using Windows 98, When you go into tools, options, the send as attachment is
checked.
However, when I click on file and sent to the send as attachment is not
available.

What version and email application are you using? Is it the same one listed
under Internet Explorer, Tools-->Internet options, Programs tab?
