I have two computers one using winXP and IE 6.0 and the
other using Win98 and IE 6.0. Sunday I noticed that when
attempting to save .jpg graphics the WinXP machine could
not select .jpg as a save option(only .bmp). When I
checked the properties of the web graphic I could see the
name ending in .jpg but the file type was "unavailable."
What is odd about this is the win98 machine could save
the same graphic as .jpg and recognized the file type as
such. Not every graphic will fail to be recognized
as .jpg on the winxp machine, but a great many websites
display this behavior. Anyone have a clue why the 98
machine sees the file type and not the xp machine?

Any help will be most appreciated as it is annoying to
have to save graphics on the old machine and move them
over.

Hi Wade,

This problem occurs if the Temporary Internet Files are full. Clear the
temporary internet files.

1. Start Internet Explorer
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the General tab.
4. Under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files.
5. When you are prompted to delete all temporary Internet files, click OK.

This happens if the indexes of the Temporary Internet Files get
overloaded. In Control Panel - Internet Options, in the temporary
internet files section on the General page, click 'Delete files'. Then
I suggest click Settings and reduce the space allowed - 50 MB is
probably generous, and on big drives it tends to choose by default a
setting that is so high that this overload happens
