Cannot save edited movies to CD disc

Everytime I attempt to save movie to recordable CD I get message saying
recordable CD disc not detedted would I like to save to my hard disk instead.
I cannot save to CD at all. If I save to hard disc and then use my CD.DVD
writer to burn to disc the movie will not play on the computer, all that
plays is the audio, no picture at all. The movie is saves in a .wmv format.
Why will it not work, it should be simple. Please help someone.

Many thanks. I have checked my properties on the disc drive and there is no
recording tab to enable CD recording on this drive. Looking further I have
gone to the Microsoft Knowledge Base article which quite frankly, not being
very clever with computers, frightens me a bit but will probably give it a
go. The instructions say to clikck 1 or 2 in the Value Data box for the drive
type so I guess I type 1 for CD-R. I would also like to know if I am able to
burn CD's for playing on a general DVD player in the home. This is all a bit
new to me but I think I wold need additional software to change the file
format and having a look Roxio Creator 7 would appear to do this. Do you
know if this is correct. Many thanks for your help.

Yes, you need other software to make discs that play on your stand-alone DVD
player. I have a CD Burning section of the website with links and comments.
One of the pages is for Roxio.
