I have Access 97 & Access 2000 installed on win 2000

I AM UNABLE TO SAVE ANY DATABASES

If I open an app which hides the database window the save button on the
toolbar and the save option on the Files menu show active.

HOWEVER as soon as I open the database window and click on a table then

The Save Button Greys and the save option on the file menu Greys out!

VERY BIG HELP!

Tools > Options No Locks, Open in shared mode

NB this occurred whilst develpoping an application front end connecting to
SQL Server.
The modifications I had made disappeared after closing and reopening the app
and it has since become unsaveable.
I then discovered the extent of this 'feature' !!!

I have
rebooted
reinstalled Access 97
to no avail

Apart from checking that the same was true of the 2000 installation I had
not had a 2000 app open for some days.

Correct. This is the way Access works, and always has worked.

A Database is NOT A DOCUMENT. It's not like a spreadsheet or a Word
file; it's a container for multiple Tables, Forms, Reports and so on.

Access is working exactly as it's designed to work. If you want to
make a copy of your database, do it using Windows Explorer, outside of
Access.
