Cannot rename or name new folders

Whenever I create a new folder or try to rename a folder I get the equal sign
all across where the name should be. The name looks
like:=================================

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

That could be caused by a virus that is trying to prevent you from renaming
files, so run an updated virus scanner and run Windows Defender (available
free from Microsoft.com).

I am currently running Symanitc Norton anti virus with the last updated files
of 4/25/06. I also ran a scan with Adaware.
