Every time I start Vista I get the message that one start-upprogram has been
blocked.
The 'offending' program is config.sys. It shows however as being permitted
and I cannot remove it. Anyone a solution?
Gus

Try renaming config.sys to something else.
I don't think it is necessary for Vista to function.

Quite true... perhaps unless one is/must be using an app. that needs to
write to config.sys

Thank you Gary. Unfortunately it won't let me rename it.
The problem started after I had used it once to look at the startup programs
running.
Vista Home Premium is giving me a lot of headaches, like IE has stopped
working on one computer, IE running with no add-ons on another. It is not
for the sake of trying just about everything after invoking help and
following recommendations, including the add-on manager. It all started
after installing my Canon printer driver - after making sure I downloaded
and used the vista compatible driver.
I am beginning to regret having bought the 2 new computers to replace the
older XP platformed machines.

It sounds like you are confusing config.sys with msconfig.exe.
When you get the blocked startup program notice, you need to
right-click on the icon in the notification area and choose to
allow msconfig.exe to run.
