I can't get the ipconfig /release command to release the
ip address 169.254.222.138, i've deleted and reinstalled
winsock and winsock 2 without effect.

My network card and adapter both check out fine. What
else can I do? I can't connect to the internet.

That's an APIPA (Automatic Private IP Address). It wasn't assigned by
a DHCP server, so it can't be released. It indicates that:

1. The network connection is configured to obtain an IP address
automatically, and:

2. It was unable to communicate with a DHCP server to get the
assignment.

Make sure that there's a live DHCP server on your network. It could
be your own broadband router, or it could be your ISP's DHCP server if
you connect directly to a cable/DSL modem.

I uninstalled the drivers for all my network (LAN and
WAN) cards and reinstalled them. Then everything worked.
The drivers must have become corrupted.

Thanks for the help!
