FAT32 to NTFS...

format can I get some help please...

Hi Healhen,

You cannot format the system drive from within Windows, fat or ntfs.

Boot from the system disk and format ( And re-install ) from there.

Richard

Do you have a 98 start up disk? Just put it in the drive and restart. Set
you bios to boot from the floppy and go to it. It will tell you that there
is no partition, just fdisk it and then format.

Since you didn't state your reason for the format, I will give a couple
links to solve your dilemma. Conversion to NTFS was not the problem from
what you did state, trying to make a system format itself would be the same
as committing suicide.
You boot from the CD and do a clean install.

While in Windows, you can't reformat the drive you booted Windows
from.

Assuming that you want to format and reinstall XP, just boot from
the XP CD and follow the prompts.

To use Recovery Console to reformat a drive, follow these steps:

1.. Start the computer by using the Windows XP CD-ROM or the Startup
disks.
2.. When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press F10.
3.. In Recovery Console, specify the appropriate installation, and then
log on by using your Administrator password.
4.. Type map, and then press ENTER.
e.. Note the drive that you want to reformat. The drive letters may be
different in Recovery Console from what they are in Windows XP.
f.. Type format x: /fs:ntfs or format x: /fs:fat32, where x is the letter
of the drive that you want to format and NTFS or FAT32 is the file system
that you want to use, and then press ENTER.
g.. Type y and then press ENTER to confirm your choice. When the
formatting process is finished, type exit and then press ENTER, to restart
the computer.
