I have a computer running XP Pro exhibiting the following symptoms.

When you click on Start\Search\ For Files or Folders nothing happens.
The Administrative Tools Dialogue is blank when you open it from the control
panel
The Network Connections Dialogue is blank when you open it.
The Windows Update Manager will not open.

I've installed both patches 823980 and 824146 that protect against the RPC
Problem (Blaster Virus) and scanned for viruses with Norton using the latest
definitions. Also checked that all services set to start on boot up are
running.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Robert

Robert,
Have the same problem with XP Home SP1. With additional symptoms.
1)RPC message comes up straight away with 60 secs to shutdown, even
when i am not on the internet.Over came that with the "shutdown -a"
command.
2)System Restore is blank.
3)Copy / Paste won't work
4)Administration|Servives|Extended Tab is blank. Standard Tab is OK
but right click|proerties doesn't work.
Have manually searched c:\ and register for msblaster.exe and ran a
week old copy of AVG. NO SIGN OF IT. Can't see anything in processes
running that look
suspicious or in start-up or win.ini or sys.ini.
I installed NAV AFTER this trouble started but it is shut down after
about 3 secs.
Also the Autoprotect feature is disabled at startup and cannot be
restarted.
Have searched the net and google groups upside down but no-one seems
to have similar symptoms. As soon as RPC is mentioned everyone assumes
msblast, maybe it is ,I just cannot find any sign of it.
Regards
Rudi.
