Have you installed IE8?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?
Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed
IE8?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

Just asking for now!! Do NOT use such a Restore Point yet!! => Do you have
an available Restore Point which predates the install of IE8?

NB: Uninstalling IE8 should resolve the behavior but you should not have
encountered it in the first place if IE8 was installed properly.

Suddenly, my computer tells me it cannot find any attachment I click on. Any
ideas?

When this happens to me, what I do is right click on the attachment >save
as> and put it in your documents and open it from there. It works for me on
everything including powerpoint.
Good luck

I have a similar but intermittant problem which cropped up after installing
IE8 and downloading the latest SP2 update. However, I get a file not found
message showing a file path c:\Windows\System 32.

When this happens I find that I can no longer open attachements previously
received and successfully viewed.

Some time latter I find that the new arrival and all others are accessible
again. As yet, I haven't been able to analyse what I might have done between
times to "unlock" the files. It does not seem to be either closing IE8 or
rebooting.

Any thoughts?

That's a known issue that is affecting some who installed IE8.
One workaround is to uninstall IE8, which reverts you back to IE7.
Even without uninstalling IE8 you can make it work for all but TXT and
JPG attachments by doing the following:

Right-click on the shortcut that you use to open Windows Mail.
Select Properties. In the field labeled 'Start in' change the existing
value to %UserProfile%. Click OK. Restart Windows Mail and try opening
attachments.

I also can not open jpg and pdf attachments. have to save them to the
desktop and then read. its a big mess and I would like to revert it.
I do not know how to un-install IE8 ????

tried to implement Gary suggestion but it does not work for jpg files

any help please

I have unistalled IE8, and have IE7 working, still can not open jpg

"respond" - it is not good........ if I could I would return to the outlook
express anytime....
