Error message 0x80004005 " unable to accurately check
computer license," prevents logon. When attempting
recovery console, administrator password required but has
been forgotten. When attempting safe mode, same trouble,
does not allow logon. Cannot do recommended fix for error
code because I cannot log on. I don't want to lose my
C:\drive data. What can I do?
Thanks.

***Thanks for responding Kendrick, I truly appreciate it.
I regret to tell you that I have already printed out that
xp help article, taken it home, painstakingly followed the
directions, only to find that I am unable to
A) start in 'safe mode'
*or*
B) access the recovery console due to administrative
password forgotten.

To clarify, I need to understand how to access the C:
drive which, defeat the administrative password
requirement, or at least recover my data from drive C:. I
am able to boot and run xp on drive D: with no problem.

Thanks again.

you can take the c: drive out and put another one in and
then reinstall xp. then put in that hard drive in addition
to the other one and transfer the stuff over to it.

This might not work. I dont have a clue about what im
saying.

Hope it helps!
