So much for a "robust" O/S:
WinXP SP2:
Everything was working fine.
My neighbor un-installed an adware blocking utility (sorry: don't know the
title).
NOW:
Attempt boot to desktop =>boots up to the user selection screen - select a
user (any user) - "loading your personal settings" - startup .WAV sound file
is heard - "saving your settings" - returns to the user selection screen -
choose another user (any user) =>same: returns to the user selection screen.
Attempted corrective action:
Boot w/ F8 and select "last known good config" =>no help / same.
Boot w/ F8 and select "safe mode" =>no help/same [although: The username
"Administrator" becomes an available choice =>select "Administrator" =>same:
returns to the user selection screen.]
MSTechnet =>no help.
Bottom line:
Unable to get to _any_ desktop, for _any_ user, safe mode or unsafe mode.
Ideas?
