I'm getting the following error for all users:

Cannot load user profile because it is being used by another process.

The computer then becomes very very very slow. What can I do?

Unfortunately, we don't have enough information to give you focused
troubleshooting. See this link for the details you should include in
your next newsgroup post:

In the meantime:

1. Make sure the computer is virus/malware-free by going through these
steps systematically:

2. If the computer is clean, do clean-boot troubleshooting:

and How to Troubleshoot By Using the Msconfig Utility in Windows XP -

3. Look in Event Viewer for clues:
Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

Thanks Carey,

Actually the error message is not that "it may be corrupted" but that
"another processor is using it".

I've tried to follow that thread but when I create a new user it is still
very slow. At first a small window titled "Personalized Settings" appears
with the message "Setting up Personalized settings for: Internet Explorer 6",
and this stays there for about 5mins, then the desktop takes very very long
to appear for the new user.

Windows XP SP2 Home Edition
I have tried system restore, and msconfig to untick all the startup programs
but it still hangs up.

My computer is clean (it's got updated F-Secure)
It is not slow in safe mode - I created a new user in that mode, but when I
click on the new user it becomes slow again, just like the other users.

What about space on the drive? How much space have you got? Have you
done the usual maintenance - deleting Temporary and Temporary Internet
Files? What changed between the time things worked and the time they
didn't?

Give some description of your computer and its hardware.
