Dave already instructed you on correcting the server name.

What type of webmail do you want to import, Hotmail, Yahoo or
something else?

Gary VanderMolen

I am having the same problem and the same error code (0x800CCCOD). I am
tryng to come from bellsouth and they gave me their addresses
mailbellsouth.net and it is POP for incoming and outgoing. I have put them
both in. I am really frustrated. Since getting Vista I am also unable to
send anything from my KodakShare sight, tells me I am not online. But I am.
Help! Thanks, Patricia

First of all, Windows Mail can't access webmail. It can only access POP and
IMAP email servers.

From the error message, it looks like you are trying to access Comcast POP
servers.
You did not enter the correct server names. The correct server names for
them are

outgoing: smtp.comcast.net

incoming: pop.comcast.net

We will need to see the exact and complete error message.
Right-click on it, select Copy, then paste into a reply here.

I wrote it down. erver Bellsouth could not be found. Protocal SMTP,, Port:25
Secure (SSL) No. socket error:1101. Error #0x800CCCOD. Then right below
that
the same thing with exceptions of Protocal POP and Port 110. Patricia I
will get it up again and copy if you need it. Pat

The host 'bellsouth' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered
the server name correctly.
Account: 'bellsouth', Server: 'bellsouth', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
There is the error message copied. Patricia
I did call bellsouth and they gave me mailbellsouth.net and POP3 for in and
out mail. That is in my computer as the default mail receiver Patricia

Thanks for including the full error message. It makes troubleshooting
so much easier!
The name you have for the incoming (POP3) mail server is not
correct. Change "bellsouth" to "mail.bellsouth.net" (without the quotes).
That same name, mail.bellsouth.net, is also used for the outgoing (SMTP) server.

Subject 'Testing', Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'mail.bellsouth.net',

Thanks for all your help. But now I get this error message. On my email,
I went to Accounts, properties, servers: Incoming is POP3, Incoming mail is
mail.bellsouth.net , outgoing mail is mail.bellsouth.net Then I said OK,
and made it my default. For some reason I have 2 accounts on that screen but
they both have the info I gave you in this. Shall I drop one? Thanks again.
If you don't get back tonight, we are going out of town tomorrow, back Tues
afternoon. Again, thank you so much. Patricia

I changed the server names and now I get Your server has unexpectedly
terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems,
network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'Windows Mail',
Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): Yes,

There is a possibility that while you still had the antivirus software
installed, it corrupted your mail account. Create a new mail account
in Windows Mail, with the same settings as the old account, then
delete the old account.

The more recent error message is a receive error.
Before, you were getting both a send error and a receive error.
Is that still the case? If so, please include a copy of the latest send error.

As far as sending, Comcast supports both port 25 and port 587.
If you are using a portable laptop, you should switch to port 587 for
sending, see
http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/index.jsp?faq=Emailtop17686
Do not use the SSL option.

You should not have two identical accounts, so delete one.

By any chance, are you using a laptop away from home?

Also, which antivirus program are you using? McAfee and Norton
antivirus are incompatible with Windows Mail. They should be
uninstalled and replaced with a compatible antivirus like the
free version of Avast:

I am using a laptop at home. And I just paid 30.00 for McAfee!!! I was able
to receive mail this a.m. Haven't tried outgoing yet. I will delete one of
the accounts. Thank you, thank you. I am going to the store that I bought
the computer and the McAfee from and ask them why they sold me the McAfee if
it doesn't work with windows mail! I do have my own mail from bellsouth so
will try to figure out how to transfer over to that. Thank you again.

Gary, Saw your post re: Error No. 0x800CCCOD. I hope you can help me, too.
The complete and exact message is: "Windows Mail Errors occurred: The host
'POP3' could not be found. Please verify that you've entered the server name
correctly. Account: 'POP3', Server: 'POP3', Protocol: POP3, Port 110, Secure
(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error No. 0x800CCCOD." Thanks. Evelyn

You don't have the correct server name... "POP3" is incorrect.
Who provides you with your email account?
Check to see if they have a webpage with the proper server names and any
other required settings.

Am failed to access my web mails (my office e-mail account) though windows
mail in Vista
Below error is being experienced, even after disarming virus guards and
firwalls etc.

The host 'mail.alpinemarine.com' could not be found. Please verify that you
have entered the server name correctly.
Account: mail.alpinemarine.com, Server: mail.alpinemarine.com, Protocol:
POP3, Port:110, SSL: No,
Socket Error 11001, Error Number: 0x800ccc0d

Pls help.

The server mail.alpinemarine.com definitely does exist.
It seems your DNS server has a problem resolving host names.
To test that theory, replace the server name with 199.231.136.134.
