| Let me clarify:

| the virus's were in the restore folders. so i wanted to remove them.
| Whatever the virus had done to the machine it was not letting me download
| windows updates and i could install windows defender but I was not able
to
| download the latest files from MS to make it current. my host files were
not
| altered and I did not find any redirection going on.

| I got rid of the /_restore folders and then everything was fine. did
windows
| updates and defender updated itself. looks like that was the trick
