Have been using XP Pro for 9+ months using traditional
start screen. Suddenly my computer boots with the
blue 'Welcome'screen. When I click on my user name, it
starts to load my settings, displays my normal desktop for
a split second, then displays a 'logging off" message and
returns to the blue 'Welcome'screen.

Any ideas on how to get by this screen?

.
Try using your XP CD as a boot option. You'll have to
change your BIOS settings to have the first boot device as
your CD, but it should work. I've just tried it and it
seems to be working OK. Setup will ask you if you want to
reinstall XP or do a repair - I tried the repair and was
asked for an administrator password - which I screwed up 3
times. Couldn't remember it, so I did a complete
reinstall.

Have fun!
