I have been trying for quite a while to network my laptop and desktop
together. I have run the setup wizard on the desktop and my laptop and still
I get nothing. When I navigate to My Network Places all i see is The
internet connection. No other computers. I try to selectview workgroup
computers and still nothing. Both computers run WinXP. I have a Westell
2200 DSL modem and a WGR614v5 wireless router. Any help would be appreciated.

Stewart,

When you ran the wizard, what did you select? If both computers connect
directly to the router, and the router to the modem, Option #2 would have been
best.

A problem with My Network Places could have several causes.
# Registry setting restrictanonymous.
# Misconfigured / overlooked firewall.
# Browser conflict.

Check restrictanonymous on each computer.

Look for any misconfigured or overlooked firewalls. What antivirus products do
you use?

Diagnose a browser conflict by running "browstat status" on both computers.

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" for each computer,
and some details about your network, here.

you might want to try add the protocol netbios under network properties,
worked for me. Not sure why it was needed, found it on site "almost
networked"

You mean you want those two to share the Internet?? Your desktop needs 2
network adapters,1 for internal network, the other one for acess to Internet

Did you even read the original post? He has a *ROUTER*. Why would he need
2 network adapters in the desktop when he has a *ROUTER*?
