Trying to reset the MS Outlook nickname cache and cannot
find the *.nk2 file. I have already set the folder
options to display hidden files. Is this file
downloadable/replaceable. Is there another step?

Thanks in advance!

What version of OL are you running? Do you connect through an Exchange
server?

We have a utility that can read the standalone versions of the NK2 file and
will be releasing a version that will read the Exchange version of that
file.

Make certain that you have the file on your computer.

Usually, on newer versions of Outlook (though not always) the filename is
Outlook.nk2.

Further, it is usually found in your Documents and Setting Folder. (Make
certain that in your Folder settings, you can view hidden and system
folders.)

Here's where you can look for it manually:

Docs and Settings\Your login user name\applications\Microsoft\Outlook. When
you go to that directory, there should now be at least one file with an
extension of
NK2.

If you wish to search for this file, start your search dialogue, and select
Advanced Search options to search for Hidden and System files. Next, you
should look in your Documents and Settings folder and search for *.nk2.

Hi Randy,

First, thanks for the quick reply.

We are using a OL 2002. We have already conducted a
search of "My Computer" so I assume if the file did reside
on the computer, it would have been located.

We are connecting through an Exchange server but the issue
is that the Email editor will not auto complete the
contacts on the server or other contacts after the
computer has been shut down.

Thanks again,
Marge

Which version of Windows? As Randy says, it's on the computer...
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook is the
location of the file in WinXP/NT. It's been so long since i used Win98, I
have no idea. :)

If you use WinXP/2k, try copying this to the address bar of Windows
Explorer:
%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Even with the files hidden setting, it should still allow you to see them
when you access it directly.

Diane,

Good job on that!

Marge,

Make certain that your autocomplete function has been activated.

Go to: Tools, Option, Preferences Tab, E-Mail Options, Advanced E-Mail
Aptions and check the box next to "Suggest names when completing To:, Cc:,
and Bcc: fields.

Try Diane's suggestion and make certain that the option is turned on.

One last thing, Outlook queries your registry to find the NK2 file, if
you're up to it, look in there to find where your system "thinks" it is.
