Outlook on startup says "creating welcome message" and after several minutes
returns with "cannot find Microsoft Exchange Server" and "must be online." I
am online. How can I fix this problem?

ARe you using an Exchange account, a POP account, or an IMAP account? What
version of Outlook?

Using a POP account (Cox cable broadband) and Outlook from Office 2003
Teacher and Student version.
(e-mail address removed)
 
Remove Exchange from your profile and create a POP3 account.

Like Milly says. Click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next. Select the Exchange
account and click Remove.
