Cannot export messages

Using Windows XP Home edition Fixpack 1, Internet
Explorer 6, I cannot export messages. When I click on
export..then messages from the 'file' menu, I get a
message..."The Export cannot be performed" An error
occured while Initializing MAPI.

Any ideas? I want to back up my messages to a CD, so if
the computer crashes I can recover.

If you just want to back up your messages, you don't need to "export"
them. Using Windows Explorer, just find your *.pst file(s) and copy
it/them onto a CD. Be aware that they may be hidden (depending on your
version of Outlook), so you need to be able to see hidden files when
searching for them.
