Help,

I cannot download files from the web, especially, files
bigger than 2MB. It starts and then stops after
downloading about 1MB, and at times it just doesn't start
the download process. I have tried IE, Netscape and
Opera, so I concluded it must be a system problem. I do
not have a virus, worm, spyware, etc. Has anyone ever
dealt with this issue?

Thanks

Are you using a download manager? Is your ISP being disabled for
inactivity? Is Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power,
selected?

Checkpoints and Suggestions. Good luck!

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and see what is listed under the key below: Many
have claimed that the culprit is listed there.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions

Go to IE/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Uncheck Enable third-party browser
extentions.

If you using any third party download manager, disable or uninstall. If you
are using a Firewall program, check the settings. (Tiny is known for this).
If you using an "Ad" filter program disable it and see if downloads work.

Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types/[File Type in
Question]/Advanced. Put a check in the box that reads: Confirm open after
download.

Clean/clear out your Temp/TIF/cache files.
Temp Files: IE/Tools/Internet Options/Delete Temporary Internet Files
Temp Files: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp

Start/Run/CMD. Type this command: REGSVR32 URLMON.DLL. Ok/Reboot. Then go
to: IE/Tools/Internet Options/Programs/Reset Web Settings.

Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Connections Tab Click on LAN
Settings/Uncheck the Automatically detect settings Make sure no other
settings on this screen are enabled.

Go to Tools/Internet Options/Connections/Lan Settings in IE6 and you
will have a checkmark under "Proxy Server" if you are using one.

If it is an application download, see if the EXE is already listed here:
HKEY CLASSES ROOT\Applications

EXE Fix for Windows XP - Line 12 (Restores EXE association)

Thanks Kelly,

I checked all settings to be fine. I don't have a
download manager. It happens not only with IE, but with
other browsers as well. connection speed 3MB/384KB. I
have another system which functions fine. I just tried
downloading a demo file (21.2 MB) from download.com which
basically paused after completing about 10%. I did not
think this would happen on a system I just installed
yesterday.

Kelly,

I thank you again. I think the reason for this problem
may be caused by the new version of ZoneAlarm. I really
hate to say this because I believe ZoneAlarm is the best
firewall software available. The system did crash a few
days after I upgraded to version 5.0. Also, I have Mcafee
VirusScan installed which supposedly would cause a
conflict with ZoneAlarm. I tweaked the ZA settings and so
far, 3 successful downloads. I really appreciate the
help.

Thanks

Most welcome and glad you have it all working. As I stated earlier this
comes into play with some but not all. As for your statement of who or what
is best.........stick around here awhile and you will soon learn, none of
them are and can't be banked on alone withstanding.
