Whenever I try downloading a picture from the internet, I'm forced to
download it as a point graphic file (bmp) instead of the usual jpg format.
This problem started a few days ago. Up till then I were able to solve the
problem by going to Tools, and then Internet options, and the finally delete
all offline files. But now that doesn't work either.
I have of course two options; either download the pictures as bmp files and
then convert them to jpg by applying the Paint program, or applying the
Send-picture-by-email option. But either of these options means a lot of
extra work.
I hope therefore that someone out there can help me.

Have you also cleaned out your temporary internet files?

Torvid I got a snazzy way for you to do this in a roundabout fashion. First
of all don't delete your temporary internet files as there is so much
information you can learn from them. Second of all, there are two ways you
can look at your temporary internet files easily. First from internet
explorer, tools and then options. This will give you all the infomation about
all the files that came onto your system from particular websites. This is
good to know because I guarrantee you that you will find websites that you
don't even remember even visiting. And guess what directly you did not visit
them.

The second way to access your temporary internet files is to use disc
cleanup. What you need to do is run it and then when it comes up. Highlight
your temporary internet files and hit view files. Then you can do a search
for the jpg files. I bet you if you download jpg you will get jpg. There may
be some spyware on your system or some settings may be off. When you come
back to disc cleanup hit cancel this way you save your temporary internet
files.

Now snazziness begins for an ordinary computer user. Go to the Microsoft
Search engine and type in Power Toys. Download everything including picture
resizer which if you have the thumbnails they are resized perfectly to what
you want. During the time you are doing some investigating about why you
can't download jpg straight from the system. But the temporary internet files
are extremely helpful. Just one rule of thumb, and that is don't restart your
system until you do an antivirus scan. Make sure there is no problem files
sititng in there because that is where a lot of them start. So just go ahead
and proceed now with some new information to become more advanced. Education
never hurts as it always increases your awareness and helps you become more
efficient in learning about your computer that you are using.

You're not going to believe this, but it seems that I have solved the
problem. I clicked Tools, Internet options, and then I used the "Move folder"
option for the Temporary internet files. I moved the whole folder to a folder
I just created in the My documents main folder, and the problem was instantly
solved. Don't ask me why. I also discovered that there are actually two
folders called Temporary internet files - one in English and one in Norwegian
(I'm from Norway).
