Hi,
I can download files etc from any other site, but when I go to windows
update, the computer checks my system and tells me that there are critical
files to download, then when I "install now" the small window comes up and
tells me that it is preparing to download, and then nothing happens. It
seems as if there is no comunication between my computer and the download
site. Every thing else seems to be working.
I wonder if I have a dll missing or something.
Any ideas?
Regards Graham

Hi Graham,

This is the short version of steps to troubleshoot access problems:

Disable any/all of the following installed on your system:

- firewall (even the native one)
- antivirus software
- popup stopper
- download manager

Go to the Control Panel/Internet Options, click on "languages" and make sure
at least your default language is installed.

Check the Date & Time applet and make sure that the day/month, and
especially year are correct, if you are out of date by 90 days or more you
will not see any updates.

Add these sites to the list of trusted sites under Internet Options/security
in the Control Panel:

https://Windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://V4.Windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://Download.Windowsupdate.com

Then retry Windows Update. If this doesn't help, try more troubleshooters
here:
