Cannot display web pages

IE will not display any web pages at all. Every
address/favourite I select returns the eroor message " The
Page Cannot Be Displayed". It is as though I am not
connected to my ISP but I am connected via Broadband and
can download e-mail using Outlook. My browser is Internet
Explorer 6.0 and I have been using it normally on a
regular basis but when the PC was started up last night no
web pages could be found at all.

The problem cured itself suddenly for about two hours then
recurred.

Can anyone help on this please. Is it a browswr setting
problem do you think? Or could it be an ISP issue even
though the line is connected OK?

I see you're still too quick to blame malware.

win98se, 450mhz pentIII, 384 ram, ie 6.0, cable modem high speed connection,
d-link router for connection of 2 computers.
having a similar problem.
my first post about this was in the i.e.6.0_outlookexpress group, 05-05-04
10:37pm, titled "broken shortcuts in favorites".
when i view web pages from favorites, i get "the page cannot be displayed
message". if i refresh the page, 1 or more times the page usually views.

did antispyware tools etc: cwshredder, adaware, spybot, norton AV. even a
hijackthis log.
still had problem.

one sourece directed to delete history, temp internet files, cookies, temp
files, thru a "deltree" process. did that. still have a few links in
favorites that display error page on first click. refreshing the page brings
it up fine.

any other ideas? thank you, len

If this problem only occurs when using favorites, then the favorites are
corrupt, in which case deleting cache etc won't help.

the problem sometime occurs upon opening ie from desktop and/or quicklaunch
icon too. sometimes it happens when i type web site directly into address
bar. after page views, by refreshing, it seems to view fine from there on,
until i close/open the ie again. doesn't happen all the time. i am also
researching spyware forums. thanks for reply. len
