Cannot delete selected text in Word

When I'm in word and I select text, if I press backspace (not the delete
key) it does not delete the text I selected. It just de-selects it.

The only way I can select text and delete it is with the delete key.
I really don't know why this happened, and it seems to be only on Word.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | Edit | check the "Typing replaces
selection" box | OK.

I'm having the same problem, and don't know where it came from. ....Waiting
for any responses about the solution.

The solution has already been posted, not only to this specific query but
many, many times in response to identical questions in the past.

Thanks Suzanne. the MVP site is great.... Its language makes sense and is
immeduiately understandable. I did uncheck the boxes referring to Word
Perfect in the General tab in 'tools,' 'options,' but my problem has not
been corrected. Is there anything else you can tell me that will help?
What is it that I am still missing?

That is not the answer to the question you posted but to another similar
question. The answer to your question, as previously posted, is to check the
box for "Typing replaces selection" on the Edit tab of Tools | Options.

Probably the reason you had not seen this reply from garfield-n-odie is that
you are posting through ExcelForum, which is an extremely inefficient way to
post since your message is slow getting to the Microsoft server, and others'
replies are even slower getting back to you.
