Cannot delete file from flash drive

Some music files have copied onto my removable flash drive (I don't know how)
and are taking up all the space. When I try to delete the files I get an
error message reading: Cannot delete file: cannot read from the source file
or disk.
I can't drag them anywhere either, so I can't get rid of them that way.
They aren't all from cd or downloaded from the internet, there seems to be
no obvious common denominator.
Any help gratefully received.
