cannot delete download

when i came off the internet i found that a new icon had
appeared on my desk top which i deleted. however it
reappeared next time i switched my computer on. i located
the .exe file but when i tried to delete i was told that i
could not due to write protection. i the tried altering
the security options giving myself full control and
permissions. but still could not delete the program how
can i get rid of this.

More than likely you need to delete the key in the
registry. If you run regedt32 you should be able to
delete the software key.

First! This will prevent this from happening in the future,
unless you unwittingly answer Yes to some download you
don't want.

Right click the IE icon | Properties | Advanced tab |
UNCHECK the two items below.
 Enable Install On Demand (Internet Explorer)
[Specifies to automatically download and install Internet Explorer components
if a Web page needs them in order to display the page properly or perform a
particular task.]
 Enable Install On Demand (Other)
[Specifies to automatically download and install Web components if a Web page
needs them in order to display the page properly or perform a particular task.]
Apply | OK

View Objects button | right click the offender | Remove
