Cannot delete a mail message with attachment

I sent a mail message with attachment and cannot close either. Screen will
not close. Rebooting has not helped.

Let me clarify, you send an email with an attachment and it's stuck in your
Outbox?

In that case:

File-Work offline.
Close Outlook.
Re-open Outlook.
Go to Outbox, delete email.
File-Work online.
