Good Morning,

We have a very large document, it contains about 400
footnotes. A person here copy and paste a paragraph that
contained a footnote to another place on the document. She
now has footnote 54 showing on the document, but when you
go to the footnote area, you have 54 showing twice. Within
the document you cannot see the #54 but if you point to
it, the other footnote still there. When I try to erase
the footnote using the backspace or the delete keys, it
does not let me delete the footnote, it only moves the
footnote to another area.

Help!

Thank you.

Hi Maritza,

Where did you try to delete the footnote?
You should delete the footnote reference (= the superscripted number or
symbol) in the text, rather than the footnote in the footnote area or
footnote pane.

If you already tried that, and it didn't work, post back!

Regards,
Klaus

I am having very similar problems. We delete the footnote reference number, but the paragraph symbol and text remains below. I can delete the text, but not the paragraph symbol. The footnote numbering is messed up because it still thinks the footnote is there. I received this particular document from someone who was using it in Word 2003 and converted it to 2000. I wonder if that has anything to do with it

Please let me know if you solved the problem.

Are you tracking changes? If so, you need to accept all the changes before
you'll be entirely rid of the footnote.
