Cannot Customize Internet Searching

Your machine is infected with spyware/malware. Go get
copies of Ad-Aware and Spybot (both free) and run them.
That should clean your machine.

You might want to consider using a different browswer such
as Firefox, Opera, etc. They all have built-in pop-up
blocking so the ads which install this stuff on your system
don't even appear.

Another option might be to get Googles Toolbar which also
has built-in pop-up blocking.

I am having trouble getting rid of the Search Companion.

I just want the old search option of using an internet
provider. I go into Preferences and change the search
behavior to turn off the Search Companion and I choose
Google. Then I hit ok and nothing happens. I just want to
be able to hit the search button on my Toolbar in Internet
and have Google pop up on the left using only a small
section of the page. I am also having trouble downloading
the google toolbar. I am not sure if something is blocking
it or not. I have also tried using other search engine
providers instead of google and I just cant get rid of the
search companion. Any help would be appreciated.

I did run Ad-Aware and cleaned it up. My computer also will not allow me to download Google Toolbar. I used to have it but for some reason I cannot download it. It downloads but doesnt install. I will try the Spybot and Firefox and see what happens. Thank you.
