my buttons and menu items relating to creating new mail or replying or
forwarding old mail have become greyed out and won't let me do anything but
send and receive any ideas why?

This is not the trial version but a full version that I have not had problems
with in the past. It would appear that the same problems seems to have
occurred in other office applications such as Word where I cannot use the
save as facility either

Please help

Outlook 2003? Did activation expire? Are you using the trial version?

It really sounds like it lost activation. If you go to Help, Activate from
any office product, does it say it's activated?

Hi

Thank you so much for your help with this as it is driving me mad! Went to
the help menu and when I clicked on Activate product it did nothing. Is says
it is licensed but I did not have a menu item which said "Activate from any
office product". Do you think it is worth trying to reinstall it completely?

thanks

no. Reinstall rarely does anything. find opa11.dat and rename it - then see
if you can activate it.

the filei s at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Microsoft\OFFICE\DATA

Hi

I have the same problem. I tried the suggestion from Diane, but it didn't
work. Did you solve the problem, and if so, please could you help me?

Hi,
Try the following:
Click on "tools" "options"
Select "other" tab
At the bottom un-click "Enable the Person Names Smart Tag"

It worked for me. I think its got something to do with the contacts folder

Hi
Thanks for the reply. It turned out to be a bit more complicated but was
sorted out with a call to MS support. My computer was replaced after several
months due to repeated faults. Originally, the computer had come with a
"trial" version of MS office, but I had bought my own copy rather than use
the pre-installed one. (Prefer to have the CD and eligible for student &
teacher version.) I thought I had installed my copy on the replacement
machine, not realising that this had also come with a pre-installed trial
version (and no alerts came up) - but had been using the trial version which
had then expired. The mix up in the registry data had prevented me using the
wizard to register. All in all, yet more hours of strife thanks to the old
faulty machine.
