I am running XP home edition and cannot create macro shortcuts (alt+ etc.)
in my desktop shortcuts no matter what I try. Suggestions? Thanks.

I KNOW what it is that is supposed to go in there--it will not let me enter
anything in the shortcut key space.

That's surprising. If I hold down the Ctrl key I get "Crtl + Alt + "
appearing in the shortcut key space, waiting for me to enter a letter. I
get the same result if I hold down the Alt key. I need to hold down
either of these keys while I insert a letter in the shortcut key space,
otherwise the entry reverts to "None."

Are you using a laptop by any chance with some unusual key mappings?

First idea was to determine what you were talking about, since you
referred to Macro. Does the cursor appear in the box if you click there?
If so what happens if you press the Ctrl or Alt keys?

BTW. Lose the sig seperator if you aren't bottom posting.

Oops! I tried entering Crtl + Alt + " by typing it in not holding down
either key. Thanks.

Glad that helped. Instructions sometimes shouldn't be taken literally.
