Hello everyone,

I have recently reinstalled Windows XP Home on my DELL
laptop. I am trying to create a dial-up internet
connection but when I go to do so, after opting to 'set
up connection manually' in the Internet Wizard, I am
promted to choose amongst several options. The screen
reads "How would you like to connect to the internet":
1. Dial-up modem
2. Broadband connection that requires a password and
username
3. Broadband connection that is always on

I have a broadband connection that is always on (which I
am currently using) but want to select option number 1.
Unfortunately, 1 and 2 are 'greyed out' so that I cannot
select either and my only option is 3 (which, again, I
already have).

If anyone has some advice for me I would greatly
appreciate it as this is proving to be a rather big
obstacle to my work (for reasons that are complicated and
would take forever to explain). THanks in advance.

Open Internet Explorer->Tools->Internet Options->Connections->Setup
and you can configure your settings again.

This is the problem:

You Cannot Create a Network Connection After You Restore Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329441

The fix is to re-install your current level of service pack ( SP1 or SP2. )
