Hi!
I have an odd problem:
I can't move or copy files between partitions in windows xp anymore. The
problem arised after I transported the computer by car for some days ago,
so I think this is some hardware problem.
I have checked every cable and connection, no problem there.

I can create new files, delete files, and I can copy and move files if it
is on the same partition! When trying to copy/move a file between
partitions, it sometimes succeed, but most of the time it fails.
When it fails, it takes about 30 sec for xp to find out, and the error
message is something like this: 'Delayed file transfer failed'. (I have a
swedish installation) After this, the system is slow and unstable.
I have three partitions, on two harddrives. The same thing happens on
every partition, there is no difference.

Is this a hardware problem, and which part can be broken?

Thank's for any help!

Just think about this, you cannot move files from one partition on a hard drive to a second partition on the same hard drive or another one.

You can create, delete files on any of the three partitions.

Now this isn't a hardware issue because the disk spins, the heads read and write.

You have some issues which may be related to the Software setup, maybe a third party security product or even a worm or virus.

Do a full scan on all partitions using a good and up-to-date anti virus application.

If this doesn't throw up any nasties, then do a repair installation of XP.

1. Go into BIOS and make sure booting from CD is the first boot option.
2. If your computer does not support booting from the CD, check your OEM or Motherboard makers web site for updated BIOS.
3. Perform a Repair Install by following the step by step below.

When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below
This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft
Windows XP to run on your computer:

To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
Press Enter to start the Windows Setup.
Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair.
Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

It's the time to check your event log. If this is caused by hardware
errors, you'll see it there.

Thank's for helping.
After poking around alot, I found it was the Dynamic Drive Overlay that
somehow had disappeared, and when i installed it again, everything worked!
Now I'm always prepared with a startup-floppy if something happens..
