cannot close system configuration utility

For some strange reason I cannot close the system configuration utlilty
after making a change. It just seems to freeze up. I have to do ctrl, alt,
del. to be able to close it out.

You probably have some kind of virus or adware preventing the use of files
like msconfig, or task manager, etc. I would try replacing the files, or
using a renamed good version to see if they would help remove the
virus/adware.

Just tried the fix in kellys korner and still nothing. I ran spybot and
adaware and nothing. ran a virus check and nothing.

If it's not some kind of malware, a Repair setup of XP should fix it.

If you run an XP "Upgrade"setup, from the original, or "Gold" version of the
setup CD, and you have SP2 installed, it will go into a setup loop, and you
will lose your install. Uninstall SP2, BEFORE you do a Upgrade setup from CD
(that lacks sp2 on it.)
